A first-of-its-kind skincare technology from Dove.

When we take a bath, we want to get rid of dirt and oil... not our skin's natural moisture! Most body washes in the market have a "dirty little secret" that causes skin dryness and irritation. These body washes actually damage proteins and lipids in the skin’s outer layer which leads to moisture loss. You don't want a skin that is tight, dry, reddish, and scaly now do you?

But as a regular Dove products user myself, I always feel that my skin is naturally clear, supple, and healthy after each wash. All of their formulas aim to provide proper cleansing while minimizing protein and lipid damage. Unlike moisturizers in other body washes, Dove Body Wash with NutriumMoisture™ is designed to penetrate skin surface better to replenish and nourish that's why I can't wait to try this newly launched formula! With 50 years of expertise in cleansing and caring for everybody's skin, it's no surprise that Dove has discovered how to restore skin's natural moisture with their products.

From the article "You're Beautiful, Pass It On", our friends from Rocket XL are sending me Dove's Body Wash Collection with NutriumMoisture™ to try and write about so I can share the experience with you guys. Feel free to come back here at Stacey Avenue for updates about this exciting new product line from Dove. Visit www.dove.com for more in-depth explanation of the science behind NutriumMoisture™.

The last time I took grandma and grandpa out on a lunch date, I remember grandma telling how proud she is of me, and they're very lucky to have me for a grandchild. But just this afternoon, I went to see her and it broke my heart when I found out that she can't recognize me anymore.

It's been weeks since grandma was diagnosed with liver cancer and she never got any better. She has always been in pain since then and she gets weaker as days go by. The doctors said her case is a type of cancer that takes a life within months of having it and for that, we can't let her or grandpa know about the condition to keep their worries and depression at bay. We should be strong and pretend to be vivacious whenever we visit her.

I knew it would be very difficult, and it took all the strength I have to keep myself smiling despite seeing her in so much pain and discomfort. When I couldn't contain it anymore, I fled to their kitchen and cried my heart out.

She can no longer walk or even endure sitting. She said it hurts a lot when anyone tries to get her up for a bath. Each day is a struggle for her and for the family because we feel like slowly losing her.

So this afternoon, I held her hand for the longest time and kept talking to her, for the hope that she'll recognize my voice. I kept asking her to get well soon so we can go out on a lunch date with grandpa again. After a while, she smiled. The most gratifying yet heartbreaking smile I have ever seen.

True Public Service

On August 10, 2009

I remember vividly a part of Kris Aquino’s eulogy during the memorial of her mother, former President Corazon Aquino. She said: “Mom believes that true public service did not end when one’s term of office ended”.

It struck me, and the first thing that came to my mind was one person and that one particular movie.

Last July 26, I went to see an indie film entitled “Isang Araw Lang” (Just One Day) at the PICC Plenary Hall with some friends. The rain poured heavily, however that didn’t stop the powerhouse crowd that literally filled each corner of the venue. There were two screenings that afternoon towards the evening and both show schedules were flooded by a sea of audience, making Mr. Daniel Razon’s debut film a success.

The story is about Kuya Daniel, a former military officer who turned his back at war and power when he learned about God through the scriptures. He then faced a humble life as a jeepney driver. He supports several orphans and willingly helps the community no matter how the situation may inconvenience him.

Popular in his side of town as a man with a big heart, people come to him for help, wise words, and consolation. When one of the orphans needed a large sum of money for a bone marrow transplant, Kuya Daniel had an inauspicious encounter with a corrupt Congressman who was about to take advantage of the poor child’s situation.

The movie’s unpredictability is what kept me glued to my seat while watching it. Therefore, I won’t go into further details about how the story turned out. What’s important is the message conveyed by this film:

In a country where people have already lost its hope for reform and honest governance by its officials, “Isang Araw Lang” appeals to everyone that ordinary people have power to effect change no matter how impossible it seems to be. As the film depicts, a steadfast faith and a heart of good intentions will move mountains.

Former President Cory Aquino is indeed right. Real public service doesn’t end when one’s term of office ends… nor is a term of office even needed at all just to be of service to the oppressed. True public service means not expecting or anticipating anything in return.

The proceeds of the movie will help fund Mr. Daniel Razon's free education program among many other public service projects he started with his team at UNTV37. Their free medical services, transient home, feeding programs, free bus rides, and free MRT rides are all conducted on a daily basis. A mark of genuine public service.

This tag was passed to me once again by my very good friend David Funk. Even though I haven't had the chance to blogwalk often recently, he always makes sure to stop by and check how I'm doing. Isn't he the sweetest?

You do not have to be tagged to play along. The game is simple and so are the rules.
This tag is for everyone so whether you're tagged or not, you may feel free to post this on your site linking me up for a small token of thanks.

This gives everyone a chance to be linked with each other and earn more blogger friends!

I'm tagging all of my friends from my links list. If you'd like to be added in my friends' list, don't hesitate to leave me a message.

A trip down the book sale

On August 1, 2009

While skimming books I find interesting, I notice a lot of paperbacks identifying names of its previous owners; names that suggest they originated some place else. Some books are even scribbled with dates of purchase that trace back from a few decades ago.

Those texts remind me of the old books I sold to a second hand shop during sixth grade; the time when my parents assigned my siblings and me to get rid of excess stuff so moving to our new home would be easier.

I wonder where those books are now. If someone actually kept them, they could easily search for me as it’s my mannerism to write my name inside each cover.

With the use of popular social networking websites such as facebook, orkut, twitter, and the like, I would like to pick some names from the books I bought at the sale. I’ll search for them during my free time and tell them where I found their names. It would be fun if they’d share with me their story about the book. Who knows I might even find myself a good pal?

Have a great day everyone.
